Northampton Saints are making moves to keep their title charge alive, announcing the signing of Italian U20 sensation Malik Faissal from Zebre. The 20-year-old winger will bring his electric pace and aerial prowess to Franklin's Gardens next season, adding serious depth to a squad already sitting pretty at the top of the Premiership.

Faissal might be young, but he's already shown flashes of brilliance. With two tries in seven senior appearances for the URC side Zebre, and a knack for stepping up against top competition—he's scored three tries in just two U20 Six Nations matches against England—the Italian is turning heads. Saints director of rugby Phil Dowson can't hide his excitement: "Malik looks like a very well-rounded player, with some x-factor to his athleticism. He's got speed and the ability to win the ball in the air, which in today's game is a vital skill."

But it's not just about flashy moves. Dowson highlights Faissal's grit: "We've been impressed with his intent too, how hard he works to get into the right places on the field. Head coach Sam Vesty loved his breakdown elements and how he hits in defence as well." That kind of all-around game is exactly what keeps a title contender ticking.

Faissal will link up with fellow Italian wing Edoardo Todaro in the 2026-27 season. For Faissal, the move is about growth. "Moving to England and getting to play in a competitive league like the Prem is going to be a real challenge, but it's a great opportunity for me to grow as a rugby player and as a person," he said. "I've already had some good conversations with the coaches about my development. That coaching was one of the main reasons I wanted to come to Saints, to play amongst a squad that is at the top of its game and learn from them."
