In its fourth season, the 3-2 triumph is the best win in North Providence volleyball's young history.

In just its fourth season, the North Providence boys volleyball team has already made history—and they're showing no signs of slowing down. Their thrilling 3-2 victory over Mt. Hope, the defending Division III champions, stands as the biggest win in the program's young tenure. It's a statement that echoes across the league: the Cougars are here to compete.

The match was a rollercoaster from start to finish. After dropping the first set 25-16, North Providence bounced back with a 25-18 win, only to fall again 25-13 in the third. Facing elimination, the Cougars dug deep, taking the fourth set 25-22 to force a decisive fifth frame. There, they found themselves trailing by four points early—but that's when senior Caden Hicks stepped up.

Hicks, who was convinced by friends to try out for the team just last year, sparked a furious rally from the middle of the lineup. The Cougars clawed back, seized control, and closed out the set 15-11, putting the rest of the division on notice.

"The friends I made along the way," Hicks said when asked how he started playing. "Last year they told me to try out, and I just had a love for it. And this is where we are now."

With the playoffs just weeks away, North Providence currently sits as the No. 2 seed in the league. The win over Mt. Hope not only boosts their confidence but also paints a target on their backs as a team to watch. For now, though, Hicks and the Cougars are savoring the moment—a testament to teamwork, resilience, and the kind of chemistry that turns a group of friends into a family on the court.
