Lando Norris has brought the Mercedes domination to a screeching halt, powering his McLaren to a commanding victory in the sprint race at the Formula One Miami Grand Prix on Saturday.
The British driver delivered a flawless performance from pole position, leading every lap of the 19-lap dash and never looking back. His teammate Oscar Piastri made it a McLaren one-two, crossing the line in second place, while Ferrari's Charles Leclerc rounded out the podium in third.
This win marks a significant shift in momentum after Mercedes had swept all three races and the sprint in China before the season's unexpected month-long break. The Silver Arrows entered Miami as the team to beat, but Norris and McLaren had other plans.
Championship leader Kimi Antonelli started alongside Norris in second but struggled off the line, losing ground to Piastri and Leclerc early on. His afternoon went from bad to worse as a track limits penalty dropped him to sixth at the flag.
Mercedes' George Russell salvaged fourth, while Red Bull's Max Verstappen came home in fifth. Lewis Hamilton, now at Ferrari, crossed in seventh, with Alpine's Pierre Gasly taking the final points-paying position in eighth.
The race weekend comes after an enforced break following the Japanese Grand Prix on March 29, when races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia were canceled due to escalating conflict in the Middle East. During the hiatus, Formula One officials also implemented minor tweaks to this year's new regulations, addressing safety concerns over dangerously high closing speeds between cars.
With qualifying for Sunday's main event set for later today, all eyes will be on Norris and McLaren to see if they can carry this sprint success into the grand prix itself.
