Noles News: Seminoles softball starts ACC Tournament championship chase

The Florida State Seminoles softball team is heading into the ACC Tournament with serious momentum—and a trophy case full of hardware to prove it. After sweeping four of the five major ACC yearly awards on Wednesday, the Noles are locked in as the No. 1 seed and ready to chase their first conference tournament title since 2023.

Leading the charge is star player Isa Torres, who earned both ACC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors. She's joined by seven other Seminoles named to All-ACC teams, a testament to the depth and talent of this squad. The team opens tournament play Thursday at 11 a.m. on the ACC Network, facing Georgia Tech at Palmer Park in Charlottesville. The Yellow Jackets advanced after a dominant 13-3 win over Notre Dame on Wednesday.

For Florida State, this tournament run is about adding to an already legendary legacy. The Seminoles have claimed 19 ACC Tournament Championships since their first in 1992, including eight of the last 11. They've reached the championship game 27 times in 32 tournament appearances and boast an all-time record of 80-22 (.784) in the event, outscoring opponents 476-192. Since head coach Lonni Alameda took over in 2009, FSU is 39-7 in the tournament and has won nine of 17 ACC titles.

This weekend's bracket could set up a gauntlet of high-RPI opponents, including Georgia Tech, Stanford, and Duke. Wins over all three would be a major boost for the Seminoles' push to break into the Top 8 RPI category and secure a strong NCAA tournament seed.

Off the field, the team's bond is just as strong. In a touching moment, Alameda shared how her players have supported her through difficult times. "She always told us, 'You are the reason why I got through this,' and I truly believe that because she continued to show up, but we also showed up for her," the team posted. "We got her through dark times, and she gets us through dark times."

Whether you're cheering from the stands or sporting Seminoles gear at home, this is a team worth watching. The ACC Tournament promises high stakes, deep talent, and a chance for Florida State to add another championship chapter to its storied history.
