Former Boilermakers guard Aaron Fine was an Indiana All-Star at Noblesville. He now returns to another area of the state where his family has great history.

In a move that brings a promising guard back to his roots, former Purdue walk-on Aaron Fine has committed to transfer to Ball State University. The Noblesville native and former Indiana All-Star will join new Cardinals head coach Chris Capko's inaugural roster, marking a significant homecoming for the Fine family.

Fine, who was Purdue's only transfer portal departure this cycle, brings three seasons of remaining eligibility to Muncie. After redshirting the 2024-25 season, he appeared in nine games for the Boilermakers this past year, scoring in six of them and showcasing efficient shooting at a 50% clip from the field.

This transfer is more than just a change of scenery; it's a return to familiar ground. Fine's father, Matt, is a legendary figure in the area, having coached Muncie Central High School for a decade. During his tenure, he led the Bearcats to six sectional titles and two appearances in the IHSAA Class 4A state finals before moving to nearby Winchester High School. Aaron's decision to play for Ball State continues a deep family legacy in Indiana basketball.

For Ball State, landing a player from a powerhouse program like Purdue is a notable start for Coach Capko's rebuild. Fine's experience in the rigorous Big Ten conference and his proven scoring touch as a walk-on could make him a valuable contributor in the MAC. This story is a perfect reminder of how basketball journeys often come full circle, connecting past, present, and future on the hardwood.
