In a twist that will disappoint Channel Island football fans, the long-awaited league derby between Jersey Bulls and Guernsey FC will not happen next season—even if Guernsey secures promotion.

The Isthmian League has confirmed its divisional allocations for the 2026-27 campaign, with Jersey Bulls placed in the South Central division. Meanwhile, should Guernsey FC win their upcoming play-off final, they will be assigned to the South East division. That means the two clubs, separated by just 27 miles of sea, will remain in different leagues.

Jersey Bulls narrowly missed out on promotion this season, reaching the play-off semi-finals in the South East division before falling on penalties. It was a heartbreaking end to an otherwise strong campaign for the islanders.

Guernsey FC, known as the Green Lions, are fighting to return to the Isthmian League after being relegated from the South Central division last season—a division they had called home since 2021-22. Their path back leads through the Southern Combination Premier Division play-off final, where they will face Peacehaven and Telscombe on Saturday, 23 May.

While the two clubs have never met in competitive league action, their players will share the pitch this weekend in a different setting. The annual Muratti Vase final at Springfield will see representatives from both island football associations go head-to-head, offering a taste of the derby atmosphere that league organizers have so far been unable to deliver.

For now, the dream of a Channel Island league derby remains on hold—but with both clubs pushing for success, that first meeting could be just one season away.
