In a commanding start to their NCAA regional campaign, the No. 6 Florida Gators put on a hitting clinic, dismantling Florida A&M 12-0 in a five-inning mercy-rule victory on Friday. The win extended Florida's remarkable home dominance in regional play, improving to 34-1 at home since 2012—a streak that speaks volumes about the Gators' prowess on their own turf.

Sophomore sensation Taylor Shumaker was the star of the show, delivering a performance that had fans on their feet. She finished with three hits, including a towering three-run homer, and drove in five runs. Batting leadoff, Shumaker set the tone early with a pair of RBI singles, helping Florida build an 8-0 lead through three innings. Her exclamation point came in the fourth inning when she launched her 17th home run of the season, effectively sealing the rout.

Not to be outdone, senior catcher Jocelyn Erickson was a force at the plate, collecting three hits—two of them doubles—and scoring the game's first run on a double by shortstop Kenleigh Cahalan. Erickson's double in the opening inning ignited a 12-hit offensive explosion for the Gators, showcasing the depth and talent of this lineup.

In the circle, pitcher Keegan Rothrock was locked in from the first pitch. Coming off eight days of rest after a tough outing in the SEC Tournament, Rothrock struck out six Rattlers over three innings and was nearly perfect. Her bid for a perfect game ended when she hit a batter to open the third, but she remained flawless otherwise, improving to 27-6 on the season.

"She was locked in and ready to go," Erickson said of Rothrock's performance.

Florida A&M, the regional's fourth seed and SWAC tournament champions, simply had no answer for the Gators' relentless attack. Head coach Tim Walton praised his top-of-the-order duo, saying, "That's what they're here for. That's why they bat 1-2. They came out, and they did it really well."

With this dominant start, the Gators (49-10) carry momentum into the rest of the regional tournament, looking to continue their winning ways and punch a ticket to the next round. For fans and players alike, this performance was a statement: Florida is ready to make a deep postseason run.
