With back-to-back losses to Northwestern and Michigan still stinging, the No. 3 Maryland Terrapins women's lacrosse team needed a statement to close the regular season. On Saturday, graduate midfielder Jordyn Lipkin delivered it in spectacular fashion.
After a season where her goal-scoring role had been reduced, Lipkin erupted for a career-high eight points, reminding everyone of the elite talent within one of the nation's most potent offenses. Her breakout performance fueled a dominant second-quarter surge that propelled the Terps to a crucial 13-9 victory over Ohio State.
The game didn't start smoothly for Maryland. The defense looked shaky early, and the Buckeyes capitalized, building a 3-1 lead in the first quarter while pelting the cage with 13 shots in just 15 minutes. A season-low one draw control from Kayla Gilmore also made it difficult for the Terps to establish offensive rhythm.
However, the tide turned dramatically in the second frame. Attacker Lauren LaPointe ignited the comeback with two brilliant, nearly identical goals from behind the net, tying the game and then giving Maryland a lead it would never relinquish. Her 51st goal of the year sparked a decisive 7-1 run that showcased the team's explosive scoring potential.
Anchoring the effort was junior goalie JJ Suriano, who bounced back strong with 10 saves on 19 shots on goal, providing the stability needed after a tough outing earlier in the week. This win was more than just a regular-season finale; it was a testament to the team's resilience and a powerful momentum-builder as they now set their sights on the postseason.
