The No. 20 Rutgers women's lacrosse team saw their remarkable season come to a close in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, falling 11-8 to No. 3 Maryland. Despite the loss, the Scarlet Knights showed incredible grit, outscoring the Terrapins in three of the four quarters after a slow start.

Maryland came out firing, dominating the first quarter with six goals and an 8-0 draw control advantage. Hilary Elsner scored the lone Rutgers goal in that opening frame, but the Knights refused to back down.

Rutgers settled into their rhythm in the second quarter, outscoring Maryland 4-2 to cut the deficit to three. That would be as close as they'd get, however, as the Terrapins answered every Scarlet Knights score to maintain control.

While the loss stings, this season will be remembered as one of the best in program history. Rutgers made the NCAA Tournament for just the fourth time ever and secured their third tournament victory. Along the way, they knocked off three ranked opponents: No. 6 Michigan, No. 17 Princeton, and No. 25 Ohio State.

Individually, the Scarlet Knights rewrote the record books. Caroline Ling shattered the single-season points record with 97. Senior captain Lily Dixon set new marks for career assists (122) and single-season assists (50). Katie Buck also made history, breaking the program's single-season and single-game draw control records.

Five players earned All-Big Ten honors, with Buck landing on the First Team and Ling on the Second Team. It's a season that has the Rutgers program poised for even greater things ahead.
