In a thrilling postseason showdown, the No. 12-ranked Rams baseball team experienced a heartbreaking 6-4 loss in game two of their Lone Star Conference tournament series against Texas A&M Kingsville on Sunday, setting up a decisive game three on Monday.

After a dominant 13-stolen-base performance in Saturday's series opener—where Rams batters struck out just twice and forced an early mercy rule—the team entered game two with momentum and confidence. But Sunday's matchup turned into a tense pitchers' duel, with both sides keeping the scoreboard clean through the first five innings.

The Rams finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth, stringing together three consecutive hits—an RBI single, an RBI triple, and an RBI double—to take a 3-0 lead. However, a costly baserunning error left the inning with no runners on and two outs instead of a continued threat, proving to be a pivotal moment.

Texas A&M Kingsville answered back in the top of the seventh, erasing the Rams' lead with three runs of their own. The game remained tied until the ninth inning, when the Javelinas seized control. After the Rams intentionally walked a batter to set up a force-out opportunity, pinch-hitter Cash Benavidaz crushed a three-run homer over the left-field wall, putting Kingsville ahead 6-3.

The Rams mounted a late rally in the bottom of the ninth, with Brett Smajstrla launching a solo home run, but the comeback fell just short, ending in a 6-4 defeat.

Now, the stage is set for an all-or-nothing game three on Monday at 1 p.m. The winner will advance to Tyler, Texas, to continue their pursuit of the LSC championship. For Rams fans, it's time to gear up and show your support—whether you're in the stands or watching from home, make sure you're repping your team's colors for this crucial matchup.
