It's official: the Milligan University Buffaloes are packing their bags for Florida. When the No. 11-ranked squad saw their name flash on the 2026 NAIA Selection Show screen, the celebration in the room was electric—and for good reason. The Buffs have secured an at-large bid to the NAIA Baseball Opening Round, trading in Appalachian spring weather for the palm trees and humidity of Lakeland, Florida, where they'll begin their postseason run on Monday, May 11.

Milligan enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed in a stacked four-team bracket, setting up a high-stakes showdown with the host and top-seeded Southeastern University Fire. The No. 14-ranked Fire, a powerhouse from the Sun Conference, will have home-field advantage—but the Buffs aren't backing down from the challenge.

First up for Milligan: a cross-continent clash with the No. 3-seeded University of British Columbia Thunderbirds. Ranked No. 24 nationally, the Thunderbirds are making the long journey from Canada to represent the Cascade Collegiate Conference, bringing their own brand of intensity to the Florida diamond. Rounding out the bracket is the No. 4-seeded Faulkner University Eagles, who will look to shake things up in their opening matchup against Southeastern.

This double-elimination bracket is one of just ten in the entire country, meaning every pitch and every at-bat carries immense weight. The pressure will build until a champion is crowned on Wednesday, May 13. For the team that survives the Lakeland heat and the relentless competition, the reward is golden: a ticket to Lewiston, Idaho.

There, from May 22-30, the ten bracket winners will converge on the campus of Lewis-Clark State College for the Avista NAIA World Series. It's the ultimate stage for college baseball, and Milligan is ready to make its mark. For now, the Buffs are focused on one thing: making the most of their trip to the Sunshine State.
