The New Mexico State Aggies softball team delivered a statement performance this weekend, completing a dominant series sweep of their rivals, the UTEP Miners, in the Battle of I-10. The Aggies capped the series with an emphatic 8-0 run-rule victory on Sunday afternoon at the NM State Softball Complex, showcasing a potent blend of power hitting and shutdown pitching.
From the first inning, NM State took control of the game and never looked back. Madi Bachman set the tone early, launching a two-run homer to give the Aggies a lead they would only build upon. The offense exploded in the third inning, highlighted by a Destan Burks home run and a two-run double from Tamara Carranza, contributing to a four-run rally that broke the game open.
While the bats were providing plenty of support, pitcher Taryn Bennett was utterly dominant in the circle. Bennett authored a complete-game gem, holding the Miners to just two hits over five scoreless innings to secure the mercy-rule win. Her performance was the perfect complement to an Aggie lineup that saw multiple stars shine.
Destan Burks led the charge offensively, finishing the day 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Madi Bachman's first-inning blast was part of a 2-for-3, three-RBI performance, proving crucial in establishing the early momentum. This comprehensive team victory underscores the Aggies' form as they continue their season.
