The San Francisco 49ers selected Ole Miss wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling with the 33rd overall pick in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Having moved out of the first round through trades with the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets, the 49ers prioritized the wide receiver position over their other needs at edge rusher and on the offensive line.
San Francisco had reportedly been receiving calls about a further trade down from 33, but instead they stuck and selected a receiver in Stribling who fits the Kyle Shanahan offense perfectly in terms of his yards after catch ability.
Stribling had 811 yards and six touchdowns receiving last season after transferring from Oklahoma State.
He averaged 7.4 yards after catch per reception in his lone campaign with Ole Miss, ranked ninth among the receivers in the class tracked by Sports Info Solutions.
Those numbers would point to Stribling filling the void left by Deebo Samuel last offseason. However, at 6ft 2in and 207 pounds and with 4.3 speed, Stribling has the attributes to be more than just a pure YAC guy in the 49er offense.
Now that the pick is in, what do you think about the decision to trade down?
Do you think it was a smart move by the 49ers, or would they have been better off staying put in the first round and selecting a player whom they could have had under team control for five years?
