The NFL Stock Exchange's Day 2 Mock Draft has the Seattle Seahawks selecting Iowa guard Gennings Dunker at No. 64 and Kansas State cornerback Julian Neal at No. 96.
Dunker at No. 64 would be an immediate upgrade over Anthony Bradford at right guard in their starting offense. Other targets available at this pick included Oklahoma’s R Mason Thomas, Tennessee’s Joshua Josephs, and Arizona State’s Keith Abney.
Neil at No. 96 would answer the question of corner depth behind Devon Witherspoon and Josh Jobe. Texas Tech’s Romello Height was still available here.
Perhaps the biggest surprise is how late these DPR-type pass rushers are still available that had massive production in the more competitive conferences. Thomas and Height were each projected first-rounders at one point- and perhaps the fact that host Trevor Sikkema was willing to let the Seahawks go into day three without drafting either says something about how deep the class truly is.
While guard might be the best shot at upgrading an every down starter and cornerback depth is as important as any, the one area the Seahawks still had trouble with the Los Angeles Rams in was rushing the passer. After losing Boye Mafe, they need to replace his speed rush style in their rotation. A true defensive role player like Thomas or Height would go a long way towards that. If they don’t get one of them, they might be ready to pick one of New Mexico’s Keyshawn James-Newby or Western Michigan’s Nadame Tucker on Day 3 and thrust them into action as a rookie.
