The third and final day of the 2026 NFL Draft began Saturday morning, with the Chargers selecting Brenen Thompson with the No. 105 pick.
Thompson, a wide receiver out of Mississippi State, is coming off a stellar 2025 campaign where he posted 57 receptions for 1,054 yards and six touchdowns, averaging 18.5 yards per catch. He should be a deep threat for the Bolts and shouldn't be underestimated for his smaller stature at 5-foot-9.
He was the fastest player at the NFL combine, at just 164 pounds, with a 4.26 40-yard dash. Thompson's evaluation ahead of the draft was: "Thompson's best trait is his straight line speed, but there is more to his game than just stretching defenses. He has some deception and wiggle-room as a runner." (The Athletic)
Thus far, the Chargers have selected edge Akheem Mesidor, center Jake Slaughter and now a wide receiver. Offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel is known for utilizing players with speed in his unit, so Thompson seems like the perfect candidate to join the Chargers in 2026.
