The NFL's schedule release has evolved into a full-blown creative showcase, with teams spending months crafting elaborate videos to hype up the upcoming season. This year, the Chargers, Jets, and Raiders scored big with millions of views for their high-production reveals—think Halo-inspired gameplay and a Kirk Cousins-Fernando Mendoza photoshoot. But the Arizona Cardinals? They're catching heat for a different reason.

The Cardinals' three-minute video features a virtual meeting with NFL mascots, led by a so-called "Director of Mascot Matchups." As the clip rolls, opponent mascots are highlighted while the director's voice fades in and out. The twist comes at the end: it's revealed the Cardinals' own mascot, Big Red, was filmed against a green screen and used as a template for the others. The result? A wave of criticism online, with fans calling it "AI slop."

On X, the video racked up just 934 likes and 656 comments—but one reply, a GIF reading "Your AI slop bores me," earned over four times the engagement. The backlash didn't stop there. Several teams quickly distanced themselves from AI-generated content. The Chargers, known for their cutting-edge social media, confirmed to Front Office Sports: "We did not use AI to create our schedule release video." Their Halo-themed effort soared with 95,000 likes on X and 83,000 on Instagram.

Other squads joined the roast. The Packers, who built a hand-made set and used real models, posted: "Your AI slop bores us." The Raiders shared "proof" their release was AI-free, while the Jaguars captioned a clip of Trevor Lawrence's haircut with "AI could never." In a league where creativity is king, the Cardinals' shortcut has become a cautionary tale—and a reminder that fans can spot the difference between craft and cut-and-paste.
