Let's start with what's already on the roster. Journeyman Jacoby Brissett has finally found a home in the desert and is expected to take the reins as the starter this season. He's backed up by veteran Gardner Minshew, who was signed in free agency to provide reliable insurance—a smart move given Brissett's impressive durability over his 10-year career. The Cardinals also drafted Carson Beck in the third round, pushing Kedon Slovis into the QB3 conversation.

Most NFL teams now keep three quarterbacks on the active roster, plus at least one on the practice squad. That's a far cry from the old days when a 33-man max roster made a third QB a luxury few could afford. Competition, after all, brings out the best in athletes. It keeps everyone sharp and reminds them that no job is truly secure.

But here's the twist: Is the Cardinals' coaching staff truly satisfied with what they have? Brissett is a perfect fit for Mike LaFleur's offensive scheme—his skills were on full display last November when he set an NFL record with 47 completions in a single game against the San Francisco 49ers. Yet, at the start of April, Brissett announced he wouldn't play under his current contract, which is the second year of a two-year, $12.5 million deal. That's a red flag that can't be ignored.

Enter Brendan Sorsby. The supplemental draft gives teams a chance to add talent outside the traditional draft cycle, and Sorsby's arm strength and mobility could make him an intriguing developmental piece. For a team that values competition and depth, the Cardinals would be wise to at least do their homework. After all, in the NFL, you can never have too many quarterbacks—or too much preparation.
