In a move that adds some intrigue to the AFC North rivalry, the Baltimore Ravens are expected to sign former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Skylar Thompson just weeks before Organized Team Activities (OTAs) get underway. The news, first reported by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, brings the Ravens' quarterback room to five players.
Thompson, a seventh-round pick by the Miami Dolphins in the 2022 NFL Draft (247th overall), spent three seasons in South Florida before signing a reserve/future contract with the Steelers in January 2025. He quickly became a preseason standout in Pittsburgh, stringing together impressive performances that earned him a spot on the initial 53-man roster. However, a hamstring injury landed him on injured reserve in mid-September, cutting his Steelers tenure short.
Now, Thompson is taking his talents to Baltimore, where he'll join a quarterback depth chart headlined by two-time MVP Lamar Jackson. The competition for the backup role also includes Tyler Huntley, Diego Pavia, and Joe Fagnano. Thompson will be looking to climb the depth chart and secure the QB2 position as the Ravens build toward the 2025 season.
For Steelers fans, it's a familiar face heading to a division rival—a reminder that in the NFL, the line between friend and foe is often just a roster move away.
