The New England Patriots lost Stefon Diggs this offseason and signed Romeo Doubs, but they did not add any receivers through the draft.

The New England Patriots have been making moves this offseason, but one glaring hole remains on their roster: a true No. 1 wide receiver. After losing Stefon Diggs in free agency and signing Romeo Doubs, the Patriots surprisingly didn't draft a single wideout. That silence speaks volumes—and insiders believe it's because a blockbuster trade for A.J. Brown is imminent.

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Patriots are "likely" to land the Philadelphia Eagles star receiver, and the price tag is becoming clearer. Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show Monday, Schefter revealed that the deal is "on track" and expected to go through. "I think AJ Brown knows where his future is headed," Schefter said. "It will be a matter of the Patriots and the Eagles getting together to finalize the trade. I still think it's likely to involve a future 1, likely a 2028 first-round draft pick."

For Patriots fans, the key date to circle is June 1. The Eagles are waiting until after that date to move Brown, as it gives them better salary cap flexibility. But the asking price remains steep—a future first-rounder is no small thing. However, given that the Patriots have a quarterback on a rookie deal, that 2028 pick could end up being a late-round selection if the team's championship window opens as planned.

This is the kind of all-in move that signals a franchise ready to compete for a Super Bowl. Adding a game-changer like Brown would instantly transform New England's offense and give their young QB a true elite target. It's a high-risk, high-reward play—but in the NFL, you have to take big swings to win big.
