The Dallas Cowboys have made their decision and have turned in the card for the No. 12 pick. After watching and praying through the first 10 picks, the Cowboys decided to move up a spot and make sure no team hurdled them to take their guy.
When the New York Giants, who had taken Arvell Rees with the No. 5 pick took OT Francis Mauigoa at No. 10, the Cowboys war room erupted in celebration. It was because they had worked out a trade with the Miami Dolphins, picking at No. 11, in order to select Ohio State safety Caleb Downs.
Downs has, for much of the draft season, appeared to be the perfect fit in the new defense of coordinator Christian Parker. He's a safety by title, but Downs can play multiple positions, specifically the nickel spot.
