There has been a nonstop feed NFL draft content connecting the Arizona Cardinals to Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson. It quieted down for a little while, but recently has begun heating up. You can't find a mock draft where the Cardinals aren't moving up into the first round to get him or getting him in Round 2.
The reason why that is being pushed in the media is because that information is out there.
We get more of it from draft analyst Todd McShay, who spoke about in the newest episode of his podcast.
"There's information that I know the Cardinals are getting that if you like Ty Simpson, it might be closer to like the Orlovsky view," he said.
And what is the Orlovsky view? ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky, a former NFL quarterback, is on the record as saying that he believes Simpson, not projected No. 1 pick and Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza, is the best quarterback prospect in the draft.
Whether or not the Cardinals think that, they are big believers in Simpson.
"I'm told the Cardinals absolutely dig Ty Simpson and they want him," McShay said.
The question is how they are going to get him. ESPN's Adam Schefter said not long ago that Simpson will go in the first round. Others are saying he will go higher than people think.
If the Cardinals truly believe in Simpson, and there is no more important position than quarterback to get right, it might not be crazy if the Cardinals manage to trade back from the third overall pick and take Simpson first.
The NFL draft begins Thursday at 8 p.m. ET. The Cardinals have the third overall pick, so it won't take long to know what they will do.
