While many fans haven't seen Young at his best consistently, there have been flashes of brilliance that remind everyone why he was the top selection in the 2023 draft. His deep ball is elite, and he's shown a genuine clutch gene in key moments. But the question remains: can he do it week in and week out?

The Panthers are doing their part to set him up for success. This offseason, they fortified the offensive line and added another weapon at wide receiver with Chris Brazzell. They also revamped the backup quarterback room, bringing in Kenny Pickett and Will Grier after Andy Dalton's departure. The supporting cast is no longer the league's worst—it's actually starting to look respectable.

According to CBS Sports' Jared Dubin, the time for talk is over. "Young already had his fifth-year option picked up, and needs to prove that season that he's worthy of a lucrative extension," Dubin wrote. That option keeps Young under contract through 2027, which was the right move for the Panthers. But signing him to a massive deal before he consistently lights up NFL defenses would be premature.

Consistency is the name of the game. No quarterback is perfect every Sunday, and even the best have rough patches. But Young needs to turn those occasional standout performances—like his strong outings in Atlanta—into the norm rather than the exception. If he can string together more productive games, he'll prove he's worth that extension. If not, the Panthers may have some tough decisions ahead.
