Newcastle United are making moves to secure their future, with rising star Lewis Miley reportedly close to signing a long-term contract extension. According to The Sun, the Magpies are eager to reward the 20-year-old midfielder for his impressive contributions, even though his current deal doesn't expire until 2029.

While an official announcement isn't imminent—terms are still being finalized—both sides are said to be keen on getting a deal done. It's a smart play from Newcastle, as Miley has become a key figure in the first team over the past two seasons, racking up 80 senior appearances and 14 direct goal contributions.

Primarily a central midfielder, Miley showed his versatility this season when injuries to Tino Livramento and Kieran Trippier forced manager Eddie Howe to deploy him at right-back. Not only did he step up, but he impressed in the unfamiliar role, proving his value to the squad.

Unfortunately, Miley's campaign was cut short after a serious injury in training last week, ruling him out for the remainder of the season. However, he's expected to be fully fit for pre-season, and Newcastle are wasting no time in locking him down for the long haul.

The timing is crucial, with veteran right-back Kieran Trippier set to leave at the end of the season. There's also speculation surrounding Livramento's future, as Manchester City and Arsenal are reportedly circling. Newcastle may be reluctant to sell, but a big offer could test their resolve.

It's been a tough 2025-26 season for the Magpies, who sit 13th in the Premier League with just two games left. Despite the struggles, the club's hierarchy remains committed to Howe as head coach, and securing Miley's future is a clear sign they're building for better days ahead.
