The New York Giants have made a roster move to strengthen their defense, signing veteran linebacker Khalid Kareem while placing rookie cornerback Thaddeus Dixon on injured reserve after he suffered a torn Achilles during recent workouts.

Kareem, 28, brings valuable experience as a rotational edge defender. A Detroit native and Notre Dame product, he was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fifth round (147th overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft. Since then, he's suited up for the Bengals, Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Bears, and most recently the Atlanta Falcons, giving him a solid NFL résumé to draw from.

This signing comes at a crucial time for the Giants, who are looking to solidify their front seven ahead of a challenging season. Kareem's versatility off the edge could provide a much-needed boost, especially as the team navigates injuries and builds depth.

Meanwhile, Dixon's injury is a tough break for the young cornerback, who was hoping to make an impact after joining the Giants. His placement on IR means he'll miss the 2020 season, but the team will look to other options in the secondary.

As the Giants gear up for Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 8:20 p.m. ET, fans can expect to see Kareem in action, potentially wearing the iconic blue jersey as he aims to make his mark in New York.

For those following the Giants' journey, the season ahead is packed with key matchups, including a Monday night clash with the Los Angeles Rams in Week 2 and divisional battles against the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles. Stay tuned as the team looks to turn this roster shakeup into on-field success.
