As the New York Giants kick off their rookie minicamp this Friday, the 49-man roster features a mix of fresh faces and seasoned pros—including two veteran players hoping to earn a second chance.
Among the tryouts are tight end Josiah Deguara and outside linebacker Quinton Bell, both bringing notable NFL experience to the practice field. Deguara, a 29-year-old from Santa Rosa, California, was a third-round pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2020 out of Cincinnati. Over six seasons with the Packers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Arizona Cardinals, the 6-foot-2, 235-pound tight end has appeared in 77 games, hauling in 53 receptions for 471 yards and three touchdowns. His versatility also shines on special teams and in fullback packages.
Meanwhile, Bell, a 6-foot-4, 258-pound edge defender from Long Beach, California, entered the league as a seventh-round selection by the Oakland Raiders in 2019 out of Prairie View A&M. The 30-year-old has suited up for 38 games across seven seasons with the Raiders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles, and Miami Dolphins, tallying 38 tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble. Notably, Bell earned a Super Bowl ring with the Buccaneers in 2020, adding championship pedigree to his resume.
Veteran tryouts during rookie minicamp are a standard part of the NFL calendar, giving teams like the Giants an extended look at experienced depth options without immediate commitment. These practices allow the coaching staff to evaluate how seasoned players mesh with the 2026 draft class and undrafted free agents, all while keeping an eye on potential roster upgrades.
