The New York Giants may have found a hidden gem in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL draft, selecting BYU linebacker Jack Kelly—a player many analysts are already calling a potential steal.
Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 242 pounds, Kelly brings a rare blend of size and athleticism to the Giants' defense. Over the last two seasons at BYU, he was a dominant force, anchoring the Cougars' defense with an eye-popping 23.5 tackles for loss and 15.0 sacks. That kind of production doesn't go unnoticed, and it's no surprise that draft experts were buzzing about his value in the later rounds.
What truly sets Kelly apart, though, is his elite athletic testing. At the NFL Combine, he posted the fastest 20-yard shuttle time among all linebackers—an impressive 4.19 seconds—despite weighing north of 240 pounds. He also showed off his explosiveness with a 37-inch vertical leap and clocked a 4.57-second 40-yard dash. Those numbers put him in rare company, especially for a player of his size.
For the Giants, adding a linebacker with Kelly's combination of power, speed, and agility could pay off big. He enters his rookie season with a chip on his shoulder, determined to prove that he should have been taken much earlier. If his college tape and combine performance are any indication, Big Blue fans might be watching a sixth-round steal in the making.
