The New York Giants are shaking things up ahead of rookie minicamp, releasing four players on Thursday in a move that signals a shift in their roster strategy. Defensive lineman Elijah Chatman, linebacker Swayze Bozeman, wide receiver Courtney Jackson, and defensive lineman Marlon Tuipulotu have all been cut, the team officially announced.

These departures come on the heels of a busy free-agent signing spree by the Giants, who are clearly focused on bolstering their defensive front. After the 2026 NFL draft, New York added veteran defensive tackles D.J. Reader and Shelby Harris, both of whom are expected to provide a strong presence alongside Dexter Lawrence on the interior line. They weren't done there—the team also picked up Zacch Pickens off waivers and signed Leki Fotu, rounding out a significant overhaul of the defensive line unit.

Chatman, who joined the Giants in 2024 and played through 2025, was a reliable rotational piece, appearing in 22 games with three starts. The SMU product managed one sack and two tackles for loss during his tenure, showing flashes of potential that ultimately weren't enough to secure his spot. Bozeman, signed just before the 2025 season, contributed six total tackles in his lone year with the team.

For Jackson and Tuipulotu, their releases mark the end of a short journey—both were signed to futures contracts for the 2026 season but never made it to the field. As the Giants gear up for rookie minicamp, these roster moves underscore the competitive nature of NFL roster building, where every spot is a battle and even promising players can find themselves on the outside looking in.
