The New York Giants have added another piece to their defensive line puzzle, claiming defensive tackle Zacch Pickens off waivers from the Kansas City Chiefs. The former third-round pick was released by Kansas City on Monday and was quickly scooped up by New York just a day later.

Pickens, who turned 26 this offseason, appeared in just three games for the Chiefs last season, recording five total tackles. Over his three-year NFL career, the former South Carolina standout has amassed 44 total tackles, two tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks—modest numbers that reflect his limited opportunities rather than his potential.

With the Giants, Pickens will look to carve out a role in a defensive tackle room that has seen significant turnover this offseason. He is the fifth defensive tackle added to the roster since the start of free agency, joining a group that includes rookie sixth-round pick Bobby Jamison-Travis (Auburn) and veteran signings Shelby Harris, Leki Fotu, and DJ Reader. The flurry of activity follows the blockbuster trade of star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence in April, which left a major void on the interior of the Giants' defense.

While Pickens is unlikely to see consistent playing time right away, his youth and pedigree as a former third-round pick make him an intriguing depth option. If he can impress during training camp, he could earn a spot on the 53-man roster and provide valuable rotational snaps for a unit still finding its identity.

For Giants fans, this move is a low-risk, high-reward addition—exactly the kind of depth move that can pay off when the pads come on in August. Stay tuned to see if Pickens can turn his fresh start in New York into a lasting NFL career.
