When the New York Giants selected linebacker Arvell Reese with the fifth overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft last month, they knew they were getting a player with superstar potential. Now, the real work begins—and Giants general manager Joe Schoen is ready to share the blueprint for his development.

Reese, who spent three standout seasons at Ohio State, brings an impressive combination of size (6-foot-4, 243 pounds) and versatility to the Giants' defense. While he found significant success as an edge rusher in college, the plan is for him to anchor the WILL linebacker position during his rookie season. That transition will be key, and the Giants have a dedicated coach to help him make the leap.

Schoen recently revealed that outside linebackers coach Charlie Bullen will be working closely with Reese, focusing on sharpening his pass-rush and blitz skills. "I'm sure there will be some one-on-one attention given to Arvell in terms of developing more pass rush and blitz stuff that he'll be doing for us," Schoen told Giants Huddle, signaling the team's commitment to maximizing his unique skill set.

Reese's college stats back up the hype: 112 total tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, and 7.0 sacks over three seasons at Ohio State. His ability to pressure the quarterback, even when it wasn't his primary role, is a rare trait that should translate well to the pro game—especially with focused coaching.

For Giants fans eager to see their new linebacker in action, the wait won't be long. Reese is set to make his first impression at the team's rookie minicamp this weekend, running from May 8-10. It's the perfect opportunity to see how the former Buckeye's development plan starts to take shape.
