The Amy Eagan era for Lobo women's basketball is officially underway, and the new head coach is moving quickly to build her roster. The first major piece fell into place Thursday with the signing of guard Valerie Norwood.
Norwood, a 5-foot-8 guard from Wellington, Kansas, joins the Lobos after a solid freshman campaign at Lindenwood, where she appeared in all 33 games. She averaged 4.5 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in just under 18 minutes per game, showcasing a well-rounded skillset from the guard position.
Her high school pedigree is equally impressive, hinting at her high ceiling. Norwood was crowned Miss Kansas Basketball and was a top-5 all-state selection. As a senior, she swept 4A Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors, averaging 16 points, five assists, four steals, and five rebounds per game—a stat line that screams two-way potential.
Eagan isn't just adding new talent; she's securing the core. In a crucial early move, she has retained key contributors Kaia Foster and Drew Jordon, who both announced their return via the team's social media. The 6-foot-2 sophomore Foster provides size and rim protection, while the 5-foot-11 senior Jordon brings experience and defensive tenacity, having notched 20 steals last season.
This roster activity follows Eagan's swift assembly of her coaching staff earlier this week, where she named Jordan Mellott Associate Head Coach, Lindsay Ward Assistant Coach, and Makayla Wallace Director of Operations. For Lobo fans, it's clear the new regime is hitting the ground running, building a foundation for an exciting new chapter at The Pit.
