New Barrow boss Adam Murray has laid down the gauntlet: it's time to rebuild the Bluebirds' identity and win back the fans' trust after a devastating relegation. The club's fall from the English Football League (EFL) on the final day of the season—capping off a chaotic campaign that saw five different head coaches—has left supporters feeling disconnected. For Murray, who left Kidderminster Harriers to sign a two-year deal, this isn't just about tactics; it's about restoring pride.
"The chats I've had with people already here, one of the main things we've got to do is build that trust back," Murray told BBC Radio Cumbria. "We've got to build that connection back. The fans need to see their team back. They need to see their club back. They need to see an identity they can connect with and be proud of. Especially here, when teams rock up, they know they're going to be in for a fight. Being brutal, I think identity to this place is key and it's been missing for a while. I want to bring that back."
After six years in League Two, Barrow's slide feels like a painful reset. But for Murray, it's also an opportunity. The 44-year-old, who led Kidderminster to promotion and will now face them in the National League, is drawing a line in the sand. He's calling for players who share his hunger—and warning that anyone who doesn't fit the plan can pack their bags.
"A big part for me is I want people here that want to be here," Murray added. "I want people here who want to commit to the cause. I want people here that have got desire and hunger to right the wrongs of last season and to get the club back where it's been. I'm not going to beat around the bush—if there are people who don't want to be here, that's fine. We need people with big hearts and big desires to go and win and win consistently. It's great having good players, but good players win you games. It's the right characters that win you promotions."
For fans who've felt adrift, this is a rallying cry. Murray knows that rebuilding a club's soul starts with the stands—and he's ready to fight for every ounce of support.
