Nebraska wrestling is making serious noise on the international stage, and this past weekend's Pan American Championships proved it. Four former Huskers stepped onto the mat representing two different nations, and every single one of them walked away with a medal around their neck.

Leading the charge for Team USA, Ridge Lovett and Liam Cronin both captured gold medals in dominant fashion. Not to be outdone, Caleb Smith and Mikey Labriola each earned silver medals while competing for Puerto Rico. Combined, these four Nebraska alums went an impressive 13-2, with their only two losses coming against—you guessed it—fellow Husker Ridge Lovett.

Lovett, in particular, put on a masterclass. After winning a US Open title just last month, he backed it up with a performance that can only be described as flawless. Competing at 70 kg, Lovett outscored his opponents a staggering 31-0 over the entire tournament, surrendering zero points on his way to continental gold. In his opening match against Canada's Michael Zale, he needed just 65 seconds to secure a 10-0 technical superiority win. This is a wrestler who looks every bit like the present and future of Team USA at his weight class.

This surge of success is part of a larger renaissance for Nebraska wrestling. Both Lovett and fellow Husker James Green won US Open titles last month and are now set to compete in Final X, where Team USA will finalize its World Team roster. Meanwhile, Smith and Labriola will proudly represent Puerto Rico at the World Championships later this October.

And the pipeline doesn't stop there. Nebraska has young talent rising through the ranks, including LJ Araujo, who will represent Brazil at the U20 World Championships after winning U20 World bronze at 79 kg in 2024. Omar Ayoub has already qualified for U20 Worlds for Puerto Rico, fresh off his own World bronze medal last year at 61 kg. Keep an eye on Antrell Taylor, Christopher Minto, and Camden McDanel as well, all of whom are expected to make strong runs for the U23 Team USA squad later this month. McDanel, a two-time U20 US Open champion, already owns U20 World bronze from 2023 at 97 kg.

From dominant gold medal performances to a deep bench of future stars, Nebraska wrestling is proving that the Cornhusker tradition is alive and well on the world stage.
