Nebraska football fans have reason to celebrate this week, as the program secured a commitment from legacy recruit Maurice Purify II, a wide receiver in the class of 2026. The young talent, who hails from Omaha Westside, brings both skill and a familiar name to the Cornhuskers' future roster.
Purify II, currently rated as a three-star recruit, is ranked as the 13th overall player in the state of Nebraska according to the Rivals Industry Rankings. His path to Lincoln wasn't direct—he was previously committed to Washington State but decommitted on October 6, 2025, after being pledged to the Cougars since June of last year. Now, he's set to follow in his father's footsteps.
Speaking of footsteps, his father, Maurice Purify Sr., was a standout for Nebraska, earning second-team All-Big 12 honors as a wide receiver. The younger Purify is carving his own path, though, with an impressive senior season at Omaha Westside that saw him rack up 589 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, averaging a solid 14 yards per catch.
This commitment marks the 12th for Nebraska's 2026 class, and it's a move that could fly under the radar but pay big dividends. Adding a legacy player with Purify II's production and potential could provide a significant boost to an already loaded wide receiver room. As the Huskers continue to build for the future, keeping top in-state talent like Purify II at home is a major win for the program.
