Nebraska's new quarterback is aiming high—and he's not shy about it. Anthony Colandrea, who transferred to the Huskers this offseason, recently sat down with Pete Nakos of On3 to share his ambitious vision for the 2026 season. And let's just say, he's not here for moral victories.
Colandrea arrives in Lincoln after a standout junior campaign with the UNLV Rebels, where he lit up the stat sheet with 3,459 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and just nine interceptions, completing 65.9% of his passes. That performance earned him the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year award—a testament to his growth and playmaking ability. Before his breakout in the Mountain West, Colandrea spent two seasons at Virginia, amassing 4,083 yards and 26 touchdowns across 19 games. Now, he's bringing that experience to a Nebraska program hungry for a return to glory.
And Colandrea isn't downplaying the stakes. "Expectations at Nebraska are to win," he said. "You’re not here to just not win a national championship. I’m not coming here to just win eight or nine games. I want to win a national championship; I want to go to the playoffs. I have high expectations, and we have high expectations as a team."
He joins a Huskers squad that needed a new starter after Dylan Raiola transferred to Oregon. The quarterback room now features Colandrea, sophomore T.J. Lateef (who started the bowl game), and former Virginia signal-caller Daniel Kaelin. But Colandrea is also fired up about something else: the fan base. After attending a sold-out wrestling match at Memorial Stadium, he was blown away. "It’s the craziest fan base I’ve ever been around," he said. "35,000 to 40,000 people at a wrestling match? I’m like, this is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. They bring the juice. I’m excited to play for them."
Nebraska kicks off the 2026 season on Saturday, September 5, hosting the Ohio Bobcats at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff time and broadcast details are still TBD, but one thing is clear: Colandrea is ready to bring the noise—and the wins.
