Nebraska football is adding some serious speed and legacy to its 2026 recruiting class, and it all starts with a father-son connection that Husker fans will love.
Matt Rhule and his staff have made one thing clear from day one: they value raw athleticism and track-level speed above almost anything else. That philosophy is paying off with the addition of Maurice Purify II, a 6'4" wide receiver who is making waves on the track as the state leader in the long jump (24' 1.25").
Purify II, a three-star recruit according to 247Sports, is the son of former Nebraska wide receiver Maurice Purify—the man who hauled in the game-winning touchdown pass against Texas Tech in 2006, sending the Huskers to the Big 12 Championship game. Now, his son is ready to carry on that legacy in Lincoln.
Last season at Omaha Westside, Purify II led his team in receiving yards (589) and receiving touchdowns (10). While his offer list might not wow you, Rhule and his staff are betting on his elite athleticism and potential. The philosophy is simple: you can't coach speed and jumping ability, but you can turn a great athlete into a great football player.
For Husker fans, this is more than just a recruiting win—it's a nod to the past and a glimpse of the future. Keep an eye on Purify II as he develops into a key piece of Nebraska's 2026 class.
