The Bison are charging hard in Mesa. North Dakota State surged into the lead after two rounds of the 2026 Summit League Men's Golf Championship, fueled by a stellar performance from senior Gabe Benson. Benson carded a 5-under 66 on Monday, leading all golfers with six birdies to not only vault the Bison to the top of the team standings but also earn a share of the individual lead.
NDSU entered the day two strokes behind first-round leader South Dakota, but the Bison turned the tables with the only under-par team score of the round at 283 (-1). Their 36-hole total of 569 (+1) now gives them a commanding six-stroke lead over Denver, who moved into second place after shooting 287 (+3). The Pioneers are led once again by Jet Hernandez, who remains tied for the individual lead after posting a 73 (+1).
Benson and Hernandez are joined at the top of the leaderboard by a pair of Coyotes: Jack Holtz and Parker Etzel, both sitting at 2-under 140. Holtz fired his second straight 70 (-1), while Etzel birdied three of his last five holes to salvage a 72 (+1) after opening with a 68 (-3). South Dakota will enter Tuesday's final round in third place at 576 (+8), just seven strokes back of the Bison, ensuring all three teams will be in the final groupings for what promises to be a thrilling finish at Longbow Golf Club.
St. Thomas moved into solo fourth place at 579 (+11) after posting a 290 (+6), while Kansas City and Oral Roberts are tied for fifth at 587 (+19). In the individual medalist race, the Tommies' Owen Rexing and Omaha's Ethan Smith round out the top five. Rexing leads the field with an impressive 11 birdies through two rounds and sits at 1-under 141, tied with Smith, who posted a 69 (-2)—the second-best round of the day among the 45-player field.
With an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on the line, the final round tees off Tuesday at 7 a.m. MST. All eyes will be on the Bison as they chase their first men's team title since 2018—and the gear that makes championship golf possible.
