A North Carolina Central University track and field athlete has been charged in connection with the alleged rape of a teammate, casting a shadow over the university's athletics program.
Alan Webster III, a 19-year-old sophomore from Fuquay-Varina, faces a charge of second-degree forcible rape. The arrest warrant stems from an incident reported on January 13 involving a female member of the team.
Webster, who is currently being held without bail, made his first court appearance on Thursday. In response to the serious allegations, NCCU has removed Webster's profile and biography from its official track and field team website.
This distressing situation underscores the critical importance of safety, respect, and accountability within team environments, values that are foundational both on and off the field.
