NBC Sports is bringing some serious Bronx Bomber pedigree to its Sunday MLB broadcast—a four-time Yankees World Series champion is stepping into the analyst booth for the network's upcoming coverage.

Former Yankees reliever Jeff Nelson will join play-by-play announcer Matt Vasgersian for the "MLB Sunday Leadoff" game at noon ET, featuring a National League East showdown between the Washington Nationals and the Miami Marlins at LoanDepot Park. Nelson, a towering 6-foot-8 right-hander who was a key setup man during New York's late-1990s dynasty, will also be joined by former infielder Kevin Frandsen and sideline reporter John Fanta, who's making his MLB broadcast debut.

Nelson was acquired from Seattle in December 1995 alongside Tino Martinez, and he quickly became a high-leverage weapon out of the bullpen. Over two stints with the Yankees (1996–2000 and 2003), he earned World Series rings in 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000—helping anchor a bullpen that bridged the gap to Mariano Rivera during one of the most dominant stretches in franchise history. His postseason resume is equally impressive: 55 career playoff appearances (fourth all-time at the time of his retirement), a 2.65 ERA, and 62 strikeouts across 54.1 innings.

Later that evening at 7 p.m. ET, "Sunday Night Baseball" shifts to an American League Central rivalry game as the Kansas City Royals host the Detroit Tigers at Kauffman Stadium. Jason Benetti will handle play-by-play, joined by analyst Eric Hosmer—a 2015 World Series champion and four-time Gold Glove winner—alongside former Tigers outfielder Andy Dirks.

For fans keeping an eye on the odds, the Yankees are currently +550 to win the World Series this year. Whether you're tuning in for the analysis, the history, or just the love of the game, Sunday's doubleheader promises a deep dive into what makes October baseball so special—starting with a legend who lived it.
