NBC Sports has acquired an additional regular-season NFL game outside of its Sunday Night Football package and will stream it exclusively on Peacock. NBC Sports just scored a major win for football fans, picking up an extra NFL game outside its usual Sunday Night Football lineup—and it's heading straight to Peacock for exclusive streaming.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, January 2, when this Week 17 clash kicks off at 4:30 p.m. ET. But that's just the beginning of a blockbuster weekend for NBCUniversal. With another Peacock-exclusive game airing that same Saturday night, followed by Sunday Night Football on January 3, the network will own three prime-time slots during the season's final stretch. Talk about a playoff atmosphere—NBC is hoping for drama like last year's Ravens-Steelers showdown, where a playoff berth hung in the balance under the lights.

This move comes as the NFL rights landscape heats up. Fox announced its own two-game acquisition on the same day, and with the league set to opt out of existing deals before 2033, media giants are gearing up for costly negotiations. Reports suggest CBS parent Paramount Skydance could pay an extra $1 billion to stay in the game.

NBCU isn't new to bold streaming plays. In 2024, it paid a reported $100 million for a playoff game that broke streaming records (remember that Dolphins-Chiefs thriller?). This Week 17 pickup is far more budget-friendly, but it's a strategic power move—giving fans more football when every snap matters.

"We're excited to work with the NFL to add a game at such a crucial point in the schedule," said NBC Sports President Rick Cordella. "With three exclusive national windows on the penultimate weekend, we're delivering for our stations, affiliates, and most importantly, the fans."

This extra game boosts NBC Sports' 2026 NFL slate to 26 total matchups, starting with the Hall of Fame Game on August 6. For fans, it means more gridiron action—and for your game-day wardrobe, it's the perfect excuse to gear up in fresh NFL apparel. Whether you're streaming from home or hosting a watch party, make sure you're dressed for the occasion.
