The 2026-27 NFL schedule is starting to take shape, and NBC just scored a major win. On Monday, the network announced it has secured rights to an extra regular-season game during Week 17, adding even more football to an already packed holiday lineup.

This special matchup—branded as the NFL Holiday Special—is set for Saturday, January 2, with kickoff at 4:30 p.m. ET. It will air live across both NBC and Peacock. But that's not all: after the afternoon game, Peacock will stream an exclusive primetime NFL game at 8 p.m. ET, giving fans a full Saturday of football. Teams for both games will be revealed later this week when the NFL releases its full schedule on Thursday.

This news comes hot on the heels of Fox announcing it would add two extra regular-season games during an earnings call earlier that same day. Those games were reportedly part of a larger package the league initially hoped to split between Netflix and YouTube, before YouTube “balked” at the deal. NBC’s extra late-season Saturday games, meanwhile, have been sold individually by the NFL for several years—last season, Fox landed a similar Saturday doubleheader late in the year.

The primetime game marks the fourth straight season Peacock will exclusively air a regular-season NFL game, and the fifth exclusive game overall for the streamer when you count the Wild Card matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins in January 2024.

Week 17 will now feature three separate NBC-produced broadcasts: the two Saturday games plus the network's usual Sunday Night Football the following day. While three games in one week is rare for NBC, it’s not unprecedented. Back in 2024, the network pulled off a similar feat in Week 1 with the NFL Kickoff Game on Thursday night, a Peacock-exclusive game from Brazil on Friday, and Sunday Night Football to close out the weekend.
