Koa Peat had an excellent freshman season with Arizona, and some NBA executives think he should continue to hone his skills there.

Koa Peat turned heads during his freshman season with the Arizona Wildcats, helping fuel one of the best campaigns in school history. But as the 6-foot-8, 235-pound forward declares for the NBA draft, a key question is emerging among league evaluators: Is he truly ready for the next level?

While USA TODAY Sports' mock draft and other projections currently slot Peat as a late first-round pick, some NBA decision-makers believe another year in Tucson could do wonders for his development. ESPN draft analyst Jeremy Woo recently weighed in on the debate, noting that Peat's decision to declare gives him a chance to climb draft boards with a strong pre-draft process. However, Woo added that "some teams viewed him as an excellent candidate to return to school and improve his stock, an option that remains available to him."

On paper, Peat already possesses an NBA-ready frame, combining strength and quickness that allow him to guard the perimeter effectively. His solid offensive feel and ability to finish inside have also drawn praise. But the biggest concern? Perimeter shooting. According to Woo, "scouts view his perimeter shooting as a critical swing skill that will impact his career path, as he is not particularly effective scoring outside 15 feet at this stage of his career."

The next few weeks will be pivotal for Peat, who will have the chance to showcase his skills in workouts alongside other draft hopefuls. Whether he impresses enough to secure a first-round spot—or decides to return to Arizona and refine his game—remains to be seen. For now, all eyes are on this talented forward as he navigates one of the biggest decisions of his young career.
