The National Wrestling Hall of Fame's New Jersey Chapter has officially announced its Class of 2026, and the lineup is nothing short of legendary. On Sunday, September 27, seven remarkable individuals will be honored with the Lifetime Service to Wrestling award during an induction banquet at the Westin Hotel in Princeton, running from noon to 4 p.m. This year's inductees include Doug Castellari, Scott Griscom, Bruce Moran, Paul Morina, Sam Rossi, Frank Sica, and Craig Spencer, who will be recognized posthumously.
For wrestling fans in South Jersey, this is a moment to celebrate—three of the inductees hail from the region, each with a story that embodies the grit and dedication of the sport. Take Doug Castellari, for instance. A standout at Buena Regional High School, he posted an impressive 91-5-1 record, capturing three District 31 titles, a Region 8 championship, and a third-place finish at the NJSIAA State Wrestling championships in 1980. He then took his talents to Temple University, where he became a two-time NCAA Division I qualifier and earned All-American status at 134 pounds in 1984. But Castellari's impact didn't stop on the mat. Returning to Buena as head coach, he built the Chiefs into a powerhouse, racking up over 300 wins, 14 Cape-Atlantic League titles, and five sectional championships. He coached 60 district champions and 15 state place winners before retiring in 2013—a legacy that earned him a spot in the South Jersey Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2016.
Then there's Scott Griscom, whose positive spirit and determination defined his tenure at Pennsville Memorial High School. After nine years as an assistant under legendary coach Jack Harford, Griscom took the reins and led the Eagles to new heights over 28 seasons. His teams posted a stellar 213-63-2 record, securing three South Jersey Group 2 titles, eight Tri-County Conference crowns, and three district team championships. Griscom also mentored 25 district champions, eight regional champions, and two state champions, earning him multiple Coach of the Year honors along the way.
The ceremony promises to be a fitting tribute to these wrestling icons, whose careers span decades of dedication to the sport. Tickets are priced at $80 and must be purchased by September 5.
