The college football recruiting world is buzzing with anticipation as five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews prepares to make his college decision. The nation's No. 1 offensive tackle recruit has set May 15 as his commitment date, according to reports, and the announcement could reshape the recruiting landscape for several powerhouse programs.

Matthews, a towering 6-foot-5, 300-pound prospect from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is widely regarded as the top offensive tackle in the Class of 2027. He's also ranked as the No. 3 overall recruit in the country. His final four schools include Georgia, Miami, Texas A&M, and LSU—each of which would love to add his elite size and skill to their offensive line.

For Georgia, landing Matthews would be a game-changer. The Bulldogs currently hold the No. 31 recruiting class nationally, despite already securing a commitment from five-star running back Kemon Spell, the No. 7 overall prospect. However, recent losses—five-star cornerback Donte Wright to Miami and four-star cornerback Jerry Outhouse to UCLA—have left the class needing a boost. Georgia has been active along the offensive line, with commitments from four-star Kelsey Adams and three-stars Abram Eisenhower and Ty Johnson, but Matthews would be the crown jewel.

That said, the Bulldogs may face an uphill battle. 247Sports has logged two Crystal Ball predictions for Matthews: one favoring Miami (from March 9, 2026) and another pointing to Texas A&M (from May 12, 2026). Rivals also gives the edge to Texas A&M in its prediction model. Still, in the world of recruiting, anything can happen until the prospect makes it official.

As May 15 approaches, all eyes will be on Matthews. Whether he chooses to stay in-state with Miami, head to the SEC powers in Georgia, Texas A&M, or LSU, or surprise everyone, one thing is certain: his commitment will be a major moment in this recruiting cycle.
