NASCAR News: Latest Silly Season Buzz on Kyle Busch’s Future

The NASCAR silly season is heating up, and one of the biggest questions on everyone's mind is finally getting some clarity: What's next for Kyle Busch?

For months, speculation has swirled around the future of the two-time Cup Series champion, with many wondering if he'd stay with Richard Childress Racing (RCR) or look for a new home. Now, according to a report from The Athletic's Jordan Bianchi, it's looking "increasingly likely" that Busch will put pen to paper on a new long-term deal with RCR.

That's a big shift from what many thought was a foregone conclusion earlier this season. But the decision makes sense when you look at the big picture. Busch has been stuck in a winless drought that now stretches 105 races, and he's currently sitting 24th in the points standings—behind even his own teammate, Austin Dillon. That's not the kind of performance that usually leads to a bidding war.

RCR has been trying everything to turn things around, including a recent crew chief change for the No. 8 team. Andy Street has taken over for Jim Pohlman, and the early results are promising. Busch has posted two top-10 finishes in the last three races, and he would have made it three in a row if not for that last-lap retaliation against John Hunter Nemechek at Texas. It looks like the team is finally finding some rhythm.

But let's be real: the biggest reason Busch might stay put is that the top teams simply aren't knocking on his door. Hendrick Motorsports, Joe Gibbs Racing, Team Penske, and 23XI Racing all reportedly don't view the 41-year-old as a clear upgrade over their current drivers. That leaves RCR as the best—and maybe only—real option for the future Hall of Famer.

Of course, RCR isn't sitting around waiting. If Busch decides to walk or if contract talks fall through, they've got a plan B. The most obvious candidate is Jesse Love, the 21-year-old RCR prospect who's already making waves. Love is driving part-time in the No. 33 car this season and is firmly in the mix for another Xfinity Series championship after winning it all last year. He was previously seen as a potential option for Legacy Motor Club in 2027, but a seat at RCR could open up sooner than expected.

For now, though, it looks like Busch and RCR are working toward a future together. And if the recent uptick in performance is any indication, that might be the best move for both sides.
