Napoli have been testing the waters for replacements should Antonio Conte depart, and their president Aurelio De Laurentiis is particularly fascinated by bringing back Maurizio Sarri, Alfredo Pedullà...

Napoli are quietly preparing for life after Antonio Conte, with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis reportedly eyeing a stunning reunion with former manager Maurizio Sarri. According to Alfredo Pedullà, Sarri has emerged as the top candidate to replace Conte, should the current boss decide to move on.

Conte's future remains uncertain. With just one year left on his contract and no extension in sight, the situation is far from settled. While he could stay on as a "lame duck" manager, the writing may be on the wall. Fabrizio Romano reports that Sarri is open to a Napoli return following a challenging second stint at Lazio, but the club will only make a move after a face-to-face meeting with Conte.

De Laurentiis has fond memories of Sarri's tenure, particularly the attractive playing style that made Napoli one of the most exciting teams in Europe. Gianluca Di Marzio notes that among all his former coaches, Sarri holds a special place in the president's heart. However, there's a catch: Sarri is still under contract with Lazio for another season, and negotiations with club president Claudio Lotito won't be easy.

Sarri's journey to the top was a long one. He spent years climbing the lower leagues before a breakout Serie A season with Empoli caught Napoli's attention. Under his guidance, the Partenopei finished in the top three for three consecutive seasons, coming agonizingly close to the Scudetto twice before the relationship eventually soured.

For De Laurentiis, bringing back a familiar face like Sarri makes more sense than gambling on an unproven talent. Meanwhile, Napoli are committed to keeping director Giovanni Manna despite interest from other clubs. As for Conte, he appears to be playing the waiting game—just as he did with Juventus last year—leaving all options open. One thing is certain: the drama in Naples is far from over.
