Big things are happening for Georgia State baseball. The Panthers' new home—already rising on the historic site of the former Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium—now has an official name. During Tuesday's meeting, the University System of Georgia Board of Regents gave the green light to Chastain Childers Field at Bill and Susan Reeves Baseball Stadium.

This name carries serious weight. Chastain “Chase” Childers was a standout for the Panthers, winning a conference championship in 2009 before getting drafted by the Baltimore Orioles. After his baseball career, he served as a Cobb County police officer. Tragically, he died in July 2025 while heroically rescuing a family of five from a rip current off Pawley's Island, South Carolina. His legacy of courage and service will now be immortalized on the field.

Then there's Bill Reeves—affectionately known as “Mr. GSU.” A devoted alum and longtime donor, Reeves served on the athletics Board of Trustees and, alongside his wife Susan, poured millions into the program, including major support for the GSU Athletic Complex in Panthersville. Bill passed away in 2024, but his impact lives on through the William “Bill” D. Reeves Society, a philanthropic leadership group supporting all 16 Panthers sports.

Construction is moving full speed ahead, with Georgia State targeting a fall completion for the new stadium. It's shaping up to be a game-changer for the program, blending modern facilities with deep community roots. For Panthers fans—and anyone who loves a good baseball story—this is one to watch.
