There's an electric energy brewing on Martha's Vineyard, and it's not just the ocean breeze. The Vineyarders girls tennis team is on an absolute tear, extending their unbeaten streak to 13 matches with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Monomoy on Friday. With the MIAA postseason just two weeks away, this clash between the top-ranked team in Division 3 and the fourth-ranked Sharks felt like a preview of something bigger.

The Vineyarders have now beaten Monomoy twice this season by the same score, handing the Sharks their only two losses. The action on the court was intense, with Martha's Vineyard showing their depth. Josey Johns delivered a commanding performance at third singles, rolling past Darcy Addison 6-4, 6-0. The first doubles team of Leah Thomson and Zoe Treitman battled through a tight first set before pulling away 7-6(1), 6-3 against Alexa Spirdo and Madison Mahfoue. Tessa Schultz and Bella Schilling then sealed the deal at second doubles, cruising past Alexa Babes-Deal and Oliva Rezk 6-3, 6-0.

Monomoy didn't go quietly, with Ella Cutter taking first singles and Handi Rezk claiming second singles 6-3, 6-3 over Charlotte Marshard. But it wasn't enough to derail the Vineyarders' momentum.

Elsewhere on the Cape, Sturgis West snapped a three-match losing streak with a dominant 5-0 sweep over Dennis-Yarmouth. The Navigators improved to 3-6 behind strong singles play from Nora Mulligan, Kaylee Baril, and Zoe Haveles, who all won in straight sets. Falmouth also got back on track, ending their longest losing streak of the season at two matches with a 4-1 win over Nauset, moving the Clippers to 11-4.

On the boys' side, Martha's Vineyard bounced back from a Wednesday loss to top Monomoy 4-1, improving to 10-3. Tommy Flynn got it done at second singles, Nate Walsh was steady at third singles, and the doubles teams of Moses Thomson and Aeneas Forrester, along with Jayden Fuller and Carter Masselli, provided the finishing touches.
