San Diego—The Chicago White Sox kicked off May with a bang, riding a dominant performance from Munetaka Murakami and a stellar start from Noah Schultz to an 8-2 victory over the San Diego Padres on Friday night. The win marked the Sox's fourth straight, a season high, and came before a sellout crowd of 43,638 at Petco Park.

Murakami, who now leads Major League Baseball with 13 home runs, delivered the decisive blow in a six-run second inning. His three-run blast off Padres starter Germán Márquez turned a tight game into a rout, showcasing the power that has made him one of the most exciting hitters in the game this season. Colson Montgomery added a solo shot in the fifth, his ninth of the year, to push the lead to 7-0.

But the story of the night might have been Schultz, the left-handed rookie making just his fourth major-league start. After escaping a bases-loaded jam in the first inning, Schultz settled into a rhythm, allowing only two hits—both to Fernando Tatis Jr.—while striking out two and walking three over six scoreless frames. The 22-year-old improved to 2-1, and his ability to work out of trouble early set the stage for the offensive explosion.

The second inning was a masterclass in small ball and power. Montgomery walked to start the frame, and Chase Meidroth doubled to put runners on second and third. Sam Antonacci singled to bring home Montgomery, and Meidroth scored on an errant throw from Tatis after a fielder's choice. Walks to Tristan Peters and Drew Romo loaded the bases for Andrew Benintendi, who plated a run with a sacrifice fly to center. Then Murakami stepped to the plate, and on a 3-2 knuckle curve from Márquez, he crushed his 13th homer of the season, a three-run shot that put the game out of reach.

The White Sox (15-17) are now riding a wave of momentum as they embark on a six-game road trip. With Murakami leading the charge and Schultz emerging as a reliable arm, Chicago looks poised to build on this early-season success. For fans, it's a reminder that this team has the pieces to compete—and the power to put on a show.
