Multiple PGA Tour champion admits he would love to return if LIV Golf folds

LIV Golf is completely up in the air right now, with Saudi Arabia’s PIF set to pull their funding from the league at the end of this season. LIV Golf seriously rocked the golfing landscape back in 2022 when they emerged onto the scene.

The golf world is buzzing with uncertainty as LIV Golf faces an uncertain future. Reports indicate that Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) is set to pull its financial backing at the end of this season, leaving the breakaway league's survival in serious doubt.

When LIV Golf burst onto the scene in 2022, it sent shockwaves through the sport, luring away some of the biggest names in golf with massive contracts. But despite the initial splash, the league has struggled to establish itself as a premier destination for world-class competition. While LIV has stagnated, the PGA Tour has only grown stronger, creating a stark contrast between the two circuits.

If LIV Golf does fold—and the league is expected to operate very differently from 2027 onward—many of its star players will be scrambling for a place to compete. Among them is Joaquin Niemann, the 27-year-old Chilean sensation who has been one of LIV's brightest lights.

Niemann has been nothing short of dominant on the LIV circuit, racking up seven wins—five of which have come since February 2025 alone. Before joining LIV in 2022, he also won twice on the PGA Tour, proving his pedigree at the highest level. So, what would happen if LIV disappeared?

In a recent interview with Beyond The Clubhouse, Niemann was candid about his plans. "Yeah, I mean, I would love to, you know, just play, keep playing golf of course," he said. "I mean, I got DP World Tour. You know, it would be nice but I don't have status there. It would be nice to go and play there. And then, if, you know, one day, we're gonna go back to the PGA Tour, I would love to play on the PGA Tour again. But, you know, the scenarios that could happen, if LIV disappears, which I don't think is going to happen."

While Niemann's confidence in LIV's survival is notable, his recent major championship performances tell a different story. Since joining LIV in August 2022, he has managed just two top-20 finishes in majors, with only one top-10. For a player of his caliber, that's a troubling trend. Deep down, he must realize that returning to the PGA Tour might be the only way to consistently compete in the game's biggest events.

However, the path back won't be easy. Niemann faces a significant challenge in regaining his PGA Tour status, and with the landscape shifting rapidly, his next move could define the rest of his career. For now, all eyes are on LIV Golf's fate—and whether players like Niemann will get the chance to return to the stage where they truly belong.
