The postseason is officially here, and Mt. Spokane is charging in with momentum and a mission. After a dominant regular season that saw the Wildcats post a near-flawless 19-1 record, they've secured the top seed in the District 6 3A tournament. Ranked third in the latest WIAA RPI standings, this team is hungry for more after a fourth-place finish at last year's state tournament.
Leading the charge is senior standout Addison Jay, a force both in the circle and at the plate. Jay has been nothing short of spectacular, batting .750 in Greater Spokane League play with 36 hits, eight home runs, and 39 RBIs—all league-best marks. On the mound, she's equally dominant, posting a microscopic 0.42 ERA, 107 strikeouts, and 10 wins. The Wildcats open their postseason run at home Wednesday against eighth-seeded Shadle Park (7-12).
But Jay isn't the only weapon in Mt. Spokane's arsenal. Avery Fox ranks fourth in the GSL with a .535 average and 23 hits, while Emme Bond has been a scoring machine with a league-high 33 runs and seven home runs. Kaydin Bradeen adds depth at the plate, tied for first with eight doubles. The Wildcats' lone blemish came in late March at Cheney, a 5-3 upset. Cheney (13-6) enters as the No. 5 seed and could set up a potential semifinal rematch if they can get past fourth-seeded Hermiston on Wednesday.
Elsewhere in the 3A bracket, University (14-6) holds the third seed and hosts Southridge, while Ridgeline (11-8) travels to second-seeded Kennewick as the No. 7 seed. All games are set for Wednesday.
In the District 6 4A tournament, Mead (15-5) earned the No. 2 seed and will host seventh-seeded Chiawana. Lewis and Clark (10-9) is the fourth seed and welcomes Richland, while sixth-seeded Ferris (5-15) heads to Hanford, and ninth-seeded Gonzaga Prep (1-17) faces top-seeded Kamiakin on the road. All 4A action also takes place Wednesday.
Over in the 2A bracket, Deer Park (15-1) captured the top seed after an unbeaten run through GSL play. The Stags will face either fifth-seeded West Valley (6-8) or fourth-seeded East Valley (7-8) on May 13, while second-seeded Pullman (11-3) awaits the winner of third-seeded Clarkston (10-7) and sixth-seeded Rogers (2-13). First-round games tip off May 12.
The top three teams from both the 4A and 3A tournaments advance to state, while the top two from 2A move on. State tournaments are set for May 22-23 in Richland (4A), May 21-23 in Lacey (3A), and May 22-23 in Selah (2A). In the 1A bracket, the top two finishers from Saturday's District 6 tournament at Whitworth University will head to a crossover next week, with the top four advancing to state May 21-23 in Richland. Northwest Christian is also in the mix.
